Tap House Grill: Burgers and Brews in Palatine, Illinois

Since my husband Jonathan and I moved to the Northwest Suburbs of Chicago last year, we’ve loved trying the many restaurants Chicago has to offer. While we enjoy heading down to the city (a short 30-minute train ride from home), we also have been pleased to find some hometown favorites near our place in Palatine, Illinois.

Addictive Food, Creative Brews

One of our go-to local faves is Tap House Grill, a short walk from home (and steps away from the Palatine Metra station, making it a great after-work stop for commuters). With 46 beers on tap, they promise “Addictive Food, Creative Brews” in their tagline, and they do not disappoint!

Their daily specials are pretty awesome. We decided to stop in on a Tuesday for $5 burgers and Game 3 of the National League Championship Series (go Cubs go!). Tap House features industrial decor, an open kitchen, and a comfortable, hometown atmosphere, making it a great spot to catch a game or catch up with friends. The Palatine location also features outdoor seating, which we really enjoy on warm summer nights.

Fatty Boombalatty is just as good to drink as it is to say

While the Cubs lost that night, our burgers and beers were definite winners. Jonathan, ever the burger “purist,” went with their Tap House Brew Burger, a classic cheeseburger on a brioche bun. I tried the Tipsy Stout Burger, glazed in a stout sauce with crispy onions, all on a pretzel roll. Jonathan went with local Chicago favorite Goose Island IPA and, on our waiter’s recommendation, I tried Furthermore Fatty Boombalatty, a crisp and pleasantly bitter Belgian ale. (I love trying new things and appreciate when a waiter is ready with a good recommendation! Unfortunately I completely forgot our waiter’s name as soon as we left, but should mention that our service was exceptional throughout the night.)

Seeing as it was $5 burger night, we both couldn’t resist getting burgers and fries, but one of my other favorite Tap House dishes is their Grilled Salmon Salad, which includes peppery arugula, rich grilled salmon, tangy goat cheese, and house made balsamic vinaigrette. And if you’re a fan of wings (who isn’t?), try their award-winning wings as a crowd-pleasing appetizer.

45+ beers on tap AND wifi – a remote employee’s dream come true

Since I work remotely for Roadside, I love that Tap House Grill is conveniently located right in quaint downtown Palatine and is walking distance from my house – and I love that they offer complimentary WIFI, making it a great spot for a working lunch when I feel like a change in scenery from my living room.
